What is the Value of Saving Lives?

The article "U.S. has already spent nearly $1 billion fighting ISIS" talks about the expected costs to continue the fight of the ISIS terrorist group.  Currently this money has just been put towards air strikes, but the cost could increase if the US decides to deploy ground troops.  If air strikes continue and ground troops are inserted,  the war against ISIS could cost roughly $4 billion.
This article helps show people that even though it is extremely important to combat terrorism, they must still look at the costs.  There is the cost of bombing, but there would also be the cost of human lives if troops are deployed, but currently the president does not plan on deploying troops.
In my opinion, there is no cost that can be placed on the lives of innocent humans.  The US should look into asking the UN to assist in the costly bombing raids.  If we do not spend money to stop the terrorists now, we could end up paying even more for damages to property and people.

  1. I entirely agree that the United States should continue to combat ISIS in any way it can. However, the US has already began to form a coalition of nations with commitments to help with the bombing. US citizens don't seem to realize that the US is far and away the most powerful military on the planet with much greater capabilities and assets than any other nation. The military expenditure of the US is the largest in the world and is greater than the next 10 countries combined. But, it would still be nice if China helped with the ISIS problem.

  2. I agree with Henry that no cost can be placed on innocent human lives. I believe it is our duty as human beings to combat the terror that ISIS has already committed and will most likely commit in the future. Hopefully several more countries will join the United States in protecting people against terrorism, but even if they don't, I think that we should continue to do everything in our power to protect innocent lives.
